Hair Care: Q&A

Good morning, beauties ❤️
This is an important post. Today I’ll be answering your questions.☝️

I guess I’m kind of lucky that my hair is the way it is — weak, thin, porous. That’s exactly why I became such a nerd about hair care. Genetics definitely matter, but remember: we have the hair we deserve. And even in the most difficult cases, it can be made healthier and better.

P.S. Sometimes I wash my hair and feel like crying… and then boom — a long-haired mermaid with silky locks stares back at me. And it only takes the bare minimum of effort.

So, I decided to make a little cheat sheet for you. Maybe it’ll be useful. Especially since I brought in almost the entire pro Korean brand line for you — but forgot to give you instructions. And I can already imagine some of you buying the wrong products and angrily messaging me.

This cheat sheet will be simple and easy to follow, so you can navigate hair products in general, not just from my store. There’s no hidden advertising here — the only thing I care about is that you smile and love what you see in the mirror, no matter where you shop.

‼️ And tell me honestly — have you also noticed that hair shedding suddenly increased and your hair feels drier?

Let’s begin!

First of all: If you feel like your shampoo “doesn’t work,” the truth is it doesn’t suit your scalp, not your hair. Shampoos are designed to cleanse the scalp, while the hair itself gets washed by the foam that trickles down.

If your hair looks dull/tangles/lacks shine, the issue is usually the conditioner, not the shampoo. But if your scalp feels dry/itchy, roots get greasy, dandruff shows up, or you feel irritation — that’s a scalp problem. And often it’s not even the shampoo itself, but a shift in your pH balance.

This shift can be triggered by seasonal changes, internal health issues, deficiencies, medications, vitamins, or even stress.

Normal scalp pH is 5–5.5.

  • If your roots get oily, your scalp pH has shifted to alkaline → you need a slightly acidic shampoo (pH 4–4.5).

  • If your scalp feels dry, it means pH is too acidic → you need a neutral shampoo (around 5.5) to bring it back into balance.

And yes — shampoos contain surfactants (the actual cleansing agents), which are almost the same everywhere. Oils, extracts, and fancy stuff don’t “wash” your hair. That’s why shampoo is, at its core, just a cleanser (in fact, you could even wash your body with it - men, this one’s for you).

But! If the pH is wrong, your scalp suffers — and that affects the condition of your hair.

This is why extracts, oils, proteins, etc. are much more important in conditioners, masks, and leave-ins, where the product actually sits on your hair long enough to penetrate.

👉 That’s why on my site I always try to list the pH of shampoos. If it says “hair loss,” it usually means it’s on the acidic side. Don’t be afraid of pH 4–4.5 shampoos — they’re amazing!

Also, remember: scalp and hair need different care with the changing seasons.

Example: when it gets cold outside, sebaceous glands slow down because blood circulation decreases (vessels constrict). As a result, hair gets dull, dry, brittle — simply because nutrients don’t reach the ends. That’s why ends split and break. Add to that seasonal shedding (totally normal, but still scary), and you see why autumn is the time to be extra gentle.

Acidic shampoos are especially helpful with shedding, because acids boost absorption and help nutrients reach the hair follicles — exactly like skincare for your face.

💡 Ideally, always keep two shampoos: one neutral and one slightly acidic, so you can adjust as your scalp’s needs change.

So yes, shampoo may seem like “just something that washes,” but in reality — it’s the starting point of healthy hair.

If you want me to, I can also tell you about leave-in treatments (how they work, what to choose, and why masks/conditioners must be rinsed out).

You can even send me a list of topics, like:

  • How hair gets its nutrients

  • How to boost the effect of treatments

Because right now is exactly the season for masks, serums, and oils!
